The motorsport world, of course, mourned the young talent, who played a decisive role in Nicolas Todt noticing Charles Leclerc. The details of this were now revealed by the manager. „It would be a lie to say that when I first saw him (Leclerc), I immediately knew he was the real deal,” the manager explained on the Track Limits podcast. „All this started from my personal relationship with Jules.”
„For your information, Jules’ best friend was Charles’ older brother, Lorenzo. They were very close, and Jules became Charles’ godfather at a very young age,” Todt continued, referring to the relationship between the two talents. „While I was helping Jules, I believe he was racing in the World Series or GP2 at that time. He told me that Lorenzo’s brother is a kart racer and that he is really good. He doesn’t have the money to go higher than karting.”
„He suggested that we meet him and help him because he is worth watching. My first reaction was yes, I would like to meet him, because of our friendship, Jules. I will do it because you are my friend. I first met him with his father.”
And what happened after that is history. As known, Leclerc not only made it to Formula 1 according to his father’s wishes, but he also signed with Ferrari, with whom he continues to dream of the world championship title. In the meantime, Leclerc emphasizes that there is no tension between him and Sainz. „Gasly: I was the best behind the four teams.”
